Dr. James Chen
Professor of Hydrology and Environmental Engineering
Dr. James Chen is the founder and director of the Hydrology City Research Lab. With over 15 years of experience in the field of urban hydrology, Dr. Chen has established himself as a leading expert in water resources management and urban flood modeling.
He received his Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering from Stanford University, followed by postdoctoral research at MIT's Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. Before establishing the Hydrology City Research Lab, Dr. Chen worked as a senior researcher at the National Water Center and served as a consultant for several international organizations.
His research has been recognized with numerous awards, including the National Science Foundation CAREER Award, the International Hydrology Prize, and the Urban Water Innovation Fellowship. Dr. Chen has published over 80 peer-reviewed articles and secured more than $10 million in research funding throughout his career.
